Danny Nelms is Senior Vice President and Managing Director at The Work Institute which captures actionable intelligence from employees and customers to help clients reduce expenses and increase revenue.

His previous experience includes having been VP of Human Resources at CHD Meridian, prior to their acquisition by Walgreens; VP of Human Resources at Murray, Inc and Director of Human Resources at Progeny Marketing Innovations.
Danny holds an MBA from the Jack Massey School of Business at Belmont University and a Bachelors Degree from Georgia State University.
Danny is an executive leader focused on business and human capital management, with over 18 years of experience managing a broad range of disciplines within service, healthcare, and manufacturing industries. He is also a great friend to the MT-SHRM HR Career Transition Group.

Our guest speaker for this meeting is James C. Phillips,Jr., VP & CFO for XMi. His presentation is entitled, "A Conversation about Aligning Human Resource Departments with Company Goals."

Jim's bio is as follows:

James C. Phillips, Jr. is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of XMi Holdings, Inc. He also serves as President of the XMi Capital, a corporate finance transactions advisory firm.

Mr. Phillips has spent his entire 18 year career advising entrepreneurs in corporate development transactions, having completed nearly 50 deals over that time. He is also an expert in business valuation and has completed business valuation assignments for submission to the Department of Labor, Internal Revenue Service, bankruptcy cases, divorce cases, and estate planning cases.

For the last six years, Mr. Phillips has held the corporate development role at XMi Holdings. When he first joined, XMi had six employees and needed to materially increase scale. Starting in April 2003 and continuing over the next five years, Mr. Phillips proceeded to lead 17 acquisitions or startups for XMi and its affiliates. Today, these firms employ approximately 425 people, and generate over $120 million in revenue. During that time, he also took on increasingly greater responsibility with XMi including being promoted to Chief Financial Officer.

Currently, Mr. Phillips serves on a number of business and community boards, including the following:

Mr. Phillips holds a Master’s of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University and a bachelor’s in Management and Psychology from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

PHR/SPHR Study Group Information Meeting

For those interested in participating in a study group to prepare for the national SPHR or PHR certification exams this fall, we will be hosting an informational meeting on Tuesday, August 10 and 17 (repeat) at the law office of Miller & Martin, PLLC. There is no cost to attend. The study group will be closed to addtional members on September 21.

We are very excited that Miller & Martin, PLLC has agreed to host this informational gathering. At this meeting, we will discuss best nights for meeting, assign hosts and facilitators, and discuss study materials required. Light refreshments will be available.

Miller Martin has also offered to validate parking for this meeting; however, you must park in the garage located between the Marriott and the Martin Miller building (turn left into the garage after passing the Marriott on 4th Avenue). Parking will be validated for the One Nashville Place parking garage only.
