Thank-you to everyone who talked with friends and colleagues about MT|SHRM!
A good time was had by all at the semi-annual Careers in Motion mixer August 24 at the old Franklin County Jail, now known as 108 Grille. Served up were good wine and appetizers along with a great networking opportunity. Mark Marshall and MT-SHRM Board members Leslie Garrett-Stephens, Barbara Stewart and Kelli Conn were on hand to speak and support the attendees. Nashville area employers also submitted job listings for anyone wanting to apply.
“This is my first meeting” said Ashlee Button (pictured left). “I have just started looking for generalist/manager positions. I will definitely attend future meetings. It is great talking with everyone about their job search.”
Melody Hubbard (pictured right) has been in transition since June. She attends the Transition Team meetings. Melody says, “More than ever it is about networking, because I am seeing a lot of qualified people out of work. It is also encouraging when you get an email announcement of someone getting placed”.
“Officially, I have been out of work two weeks,” says Gabe Hall (Pictured left). “I have attended four meetings now and what I get out of those meetings is the opportunity to network. Meeting with people who are in the same situation is very helpful”.
Mark Marshall sums it up, “The motto for the MT-SHRM HR Career Transition Group is HR Professionals Helping HR Professionals, and I think that is the win-win spirit of the HR community in Middle Tennessee”.

Employment Law In the Obama-Era – Strategies For Protecting Your Organization From Increased Legal Risks will be presented by Kim Vance, Shareholder, Baker Donelson on September 25, 2009 8:00-10:00am.
Every month we hear about changes in employment laws backed by the new administration in Washington D.C. Whether it be changes in the COBRA rules brought about by the economic stimulus package or the battle over the Employee Free Choice Act, there is no doubt we are in the midst of a major transformation. There are a number of proposed laws awaiting Congressional approval that will dramatically affect human resources management and increase the risk of employment-related litigation for your company. Join us for an interactive workshop covering the latest employment law changes as well as a forecast for the remainder of President Obama’s first year in office as he pushes forward an aggressive labor agenda. Our learning objectives for the program include the following:
Examining the Employee Free Choice Act and the RESPECT Act and what these new laws could mean to your organization.
Analyzing your policies and procedures in light of the Lily Ledbetter Act
Assessing the potential passage of new FMLA amendments expanding the scope of the law
Determining how to strategically revise management training sessions to prepare for passage of the Employment Nondiscrimination Act
Taking a look at the EEOC's new Caregiver Discrimination Guidance and Best Practices: Is your Company at risk?
Being Prepared For Further Employment Law Changes – What’s Next On Obama’s Agenda?
