Light Of Hope 2006

Location: On the steps of the Juvenile Justice Center • 100 Woodland Street

Blair Children’s Choir will perform.

CASA’s Light of Hope candlelight vigil is part of a national movement to light a symbol of hope for each of the 3,000 abused, neglected children in state custody or other temporary situations right here in Davidson County.

Event is free and open to the public.
Red Shoe Party
Date: Saturday, April 29, 2006

Location: At City Hall in the Gulch

Come kick up your red heels to support CASA’s volunteer advocacy program!

Patron tickets are $250 and include a VIP Patrons Party from 6-7 p.m. at BarTwenty3. Then walk right next door to City Hall for the Red Shoe Party from 7-11 p.m. Guests will enjoy complimentary bar beverages, fabulous food, entertainment provided by the Max Headroom Band, a phenomenal silent auction with trips and art, and a must see Red Shoe contest!
Individual tickets are $100.

CABLE/MTSHRM Habitat for Humanity Project
Dates: Saturday, March 25 & Sunday, March 26, 2006
Time: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (see shift options below)
Location: At City Hall in the Gulch

MT SHRM's Community Involvement Committee is partnering with CABLE and Habitat for Humanity to put the finishing touches on a new home being built in the Providence Park subdivision (off Harding and I-24). Volunteers are needed on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday March 26. Duties include general clean-up and yard work. We will not be doing any construction. We need a total of 8-10 volunteers on both days, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Shift options are as follows:
7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Hands on Nashville
Hands On Nashville is the recognized leader of programs, partnerships and services that maximize volunteer impact in the greater Nashville community. We offer a variety of programs and resources that empower people to make volunteering a regular part of their lives.

Hands On Nashville:
Links volunteers with available volunteer opportunities,
Builds partnerships with local schools, agencies and neighborhoods,
Develops structured volunteer projects,
Coordinates large-scale community volunteer events,
Customizes volunteer experiences for groups and companies, and
Provides training and consulting for volunteer managers and groups.

As your community Volunteer Center, Hands On Nashville serves as a local hub for volunteerism.
Soup Stop
Dates: Fridays, March 10th & 31th, 2006

Location: Salvation Army's Canteen Truck • Salvation Army Store • 1st Ave. N.

Winter continues with some very cold nights. Come out and help the Salvation Army cook up a hot soup and serve folks who are struggling to survive on the streets of Nashville. Volunteers will prepare soup in the Salvation Army's Canteen Truck which will be located at the Salvation Army store on 1st Avenue North. A Salvation Army staff person will be on board for the duration of the project. Sign up here.
Lunch and Learn

This is the quarterly meeting for members of the Middle TN Council of the Blind. Volunteers are needed to assist with helping set-up preparations prior to lunch and after-lunch activities including games. Lunch is included for volunteers. Sign up here.
Senior Helpings
Date: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Location: St. Luke's Community House

Second Harvest Food Bank, working in conjunction with St. Luke's Community House, provides staple foods to senior citizens living in the St. Luke's community of west Nashville. This project is best done in pairs so grab a friend, pick up the food bags from St. Luke's, and receive driving directions to deliver food to approximately 8 homebound seniors living within a 5-mile radius of St. Luke's. You will certainly brighten up the day for many senior citizens by delivering a car full of food and a cheery hello! Sign up here.
Music de la Gente
Date: Friday, March 17, 2006
Time: 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Coleman Community Center

This festival "Music of the People" will be held at Coleman Community Center and will feature games, food, and of course, lots of music. Volunteers will assist with setting up all aspects of the festival including tables and chairs, table decorations, decorative lights, etc. Singing a tune will be encouraged while you work! Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Volunteers will take care of any last minute set-up and decorating details prior to the start of the festival. If you are a balloon lover, this is the time for you to shine as 500 balloons will be inflated this morning.
